The optical illusion is based on a property of the eyes: persistence of vision. There are approximately 50 milliseconds between two distinct images registered by the retina. If you look at a fast moving light you will see a continuous line of light.
I programmed a PIC (a microcontroller developed by microchip) in order to control 7 LEDs and the information displayed by the system.
