What if you could shape your furniture as you wanted and as you needed it?
SIY is inspired by velcro’s capacity to bend and retain a given shape. It’s a mechanism composed of two flexible layers (loops and hoops) made of wood. These are maintained pressed against each other by closing the system with two zippers.
I did a lot of research and experimentation in order to design SIY. I tried to mechanically reproduce this property. I tried different ways to keep the two layers together: vacuum bags, buttons, until I found the idea of using an elastic socket closed by a zipper.
After this discovery I designed SIY and I did a full scale version of my mechanism.
